Gamification is a term used to describe the use by a business of game thinking and techniques in a non-game context to encourage and motivate users.

The gamification techniques and mechanics might involve game rules, competitions, point scoring league tables, reward systems and achievement badges.

The aim of the gamification strategy for a business is to make what might be a dull and boring activity into a fun and engaging experience for the customer. For example, airline frequent flyer programs is used to create customer loyalty.

In addition, gamification in the workplace is used to motivate and improve the performance of employees by the use of reward systems such as merit badges.
